Flu Season

The 2020 Flu Campaign

Our flu campaign will commence around the second week of September. We are waiting for confirmation that our vaccines will be delivered when expected in order to arrange our clinics and publicize the avialability for booking.

Due to COVID-19, our clinics this year will have a different format and we ask patients co-operation in following the instructions give when they first book their appointments. As soon as the clinics are available for booking, the dates will be advertised here.

This year the flu vaccine is being offered on the NHS to:

  • adults 65 and over
  • people with certain medical conditions (including children in at-risk groups from 6 months of age)
  • pregnant women
  • people living with someone who's at high risk from coronavirus (on the NHS shielded patient list)
  • children aged 2 and 3 on 31 August 2020
  • children in primary school
  • children in year 7 (secondary school)
  • frontline health or social care workers

Later in the year, the flu vaccine may be given to people aged 50 to 64. More information will be available later in the autumn. If you are in this group and do not have an underlying condition, we ask for your co-operation by waiting until this information is available. Currently, practices only have access to the vaccines for the at risk group. As soon as the DoH announces the availability of extra vaccines for this new cohort, we will plan and book the appropriate clinics.

However, if you're aged 50 to 64 and in an at-risk group, you should not delay having your flu vaccine.

The procedure for accessing the building will remain the same and patients will be required to wear some sort of face covering (a see through shield is perfectly acceptable) and your temperature will be taken.

For the safety of the staff and patients alike, the clinics will be run at the building entrance concourse, in portable vaccination pods which means there will be no sitting area indoors. Therefore, we request that patients do not arrive any earlier than a couple of minutes before their appointment as they will have to wait outdoors.

As we all know, this is an unprecedented situation and we have to plan every small detail of how patients will access their flu immunization in a safe and efficient manner.

We thank you in advance for your co-operation
